Composition:
This four-part Zentangle-inspired work is a tapestry of intricate lines, curves, and repeating motifs. Each canvas is a microcosm of order and chaos, but together they create a seamless flow, inviting viewers to lose themselves in the labyrinth of patterns.
Color & Symbolism:
Contrasting hues highlight depth and rhythm, while the deliberate interlacing of shapes suggests both the complexity and the interconnectedness of life. The work becomes a meditation on dualities — chaos and calm, spontaneity and control.
Medium & Technique:
Executed in fine acrylic linework, the Zentangle approach transforms pattern-making into both visual art and mindfulness practice. The repetition of shapes mirrors the rhythm of breath, underscoring the meditative quality of the process.
Style & Story:
Rooted in the Zentangle philosophy of mindful creation, Tangled reflects the artist’s early exploration of structured abstraction. The work embodies harmony through intricacy — an abstract narrative where every stroke contributes to balance and flow.
Emotional Connection:
Viewers often describe a sense of calm and focus while engaging with this piece. The detailed patterns encourage the eye to travel continuously, fostering a meditative experience that mirrors the artist’s own state of mind while creating it.
Context & Significance:
Painted two years after her return to art, Tangled shows the artist’s growing interest in meditative and philosophical themes. While Duality (2006) and Namaste (2010) explore symbolic and spiritual subjects, Tangled embodies meditation through process, marking an important step in the evolution of her voice.
Message from the Artist
Tangled was born out of my fascination with intricate patterns and how they can hold both chaos and serenity at once. Zentangle art has always intrigued me because it mimics the flow of thought — looping, twisting, sometimes cluttered, yet capable of forming a beautiful whole. This piece was my attempt to translate that rhythm onto canvas.
The interplay of bold contrasts and delicate linework was intentional. I wanted the patterns to invite the eye to wander, to lose itself and yet discover balance within the complexity. There’s something meditative about getting lost in those details — a reminder that even when life feels tangled, there’s harmony waiting to be uncovered if we allow ourselves to sit with it.
For me, this painting carries the essence of mindfulness and creative freedom. It is less about structure and more about surrender — letting the brush and patterns find their way without overthinking. In that sense, it became both a visual journey and a personal practice of peace through creation.
