Composition

Respite is composed as a multi-panel landscape, stretched horizontally like a quiet horizon. The staggered panels create a rhythmic pause—spaces where the eye can rest—mirroring the theme of arrival after long travel. The repeated forms of birds introduce gentle continuity across the panels, reinforcing a shared moment of stillness.

Color & Energy

Earthy, weathered tones—soft blues, muted greens, warm rusts, and sun-washed yellows—flow seamlessly from one panel to the next. These colors feel lived-in rather than pristine, evoking changing seasons and the passage of time. The overall energy is calm and grounding, with no single area demanding attention, only inviting quiet presence.

Medium & Texture

The layered mixed media surface carries a tactile honesty. Scrap paper, string, and textured materials create a worn, almost architectural quality, like walls shaped by wind and weather. Message from the Artist

I created Respite with a desire to capture calm. I imagined these birds having traveled far and wide, finally finding a place to rest. Life moves us through constant motion—seasons change, responsibilities pile up, and the daily grind can be relentless. This piece is my reminder, to myself and to others, that we must consciously seek pockets of peace to maintain our equilibrium. For me, those moments come through painting, reading, or quiet contemplation. This work is an invitation to pause, breathe, and simply be.
